WATN-TV is an ABC-affiliated television station licensed to Memphis, Tennessee, United States. The station is owned by Nexstar Media Group, as part of a duopoly with CW affiliate WLMT (channel 30). The two stations share studios on Winchester Road in Memphis’ Parkway Village district; WATN-TV’s transmitter is based further north in unincorporated Bartlett.
WATN-TV first signed on the air on September 3, 1959, as WMCT-TV; it was the fourth television station to sign on in the Memphis market. The station was originally owned by a group of local investors that included future U.S. Senator Howard Baker and his brother Everett Baker (who served as WMCT’s first president and general manager).
