A&E Network is an American cable and satellite television channel owned by A+E Networks, a joint venture between the Hearst Corporation and the Disney-ABC Television Group division of the Walt Disney Company. The channel airs mainly reality-based programming focused on crime and investigation and some acquired scripted series.
The network was launched initially as ARTS (A&R Tapes and Records) in 1984, before rebranding as The Biography Channel in 2000. In 2007, it was rebranded again as A&E and has since maintained that name.
