The station first went on the air on October 1, 1949, as WCON-TV. It was the first television station in Atlanta and only the second in Georgia. The station was originally an affiliate of the CBS network but switched to NBC in 1950.
In 1953, the station was bought by Storer Broadcasting and became known as WAGA-TV. The new owners changed the station’s call letters to match those of its radio sister station, WAGA (AM).
FOX 5 Atlanta GA (WAGA-TV) is best known for its news programming. The station’s weekday morning show, Good Day Atlanta, has been on the air since 1986. The show features a mix of news, weather, traffic, and human interest stories.
